Viva Bologna: History and Memories of Dickinson’s Oldest Program Abroad On November 13, 1964, The Dickinsonian announced faculty’s approval of the first study abroad program in Bologna (Italy) to be led by K. Robert Nilsson, professor of political science. The announcement noted: “The program, to be inaugurated in the fall of 1965, is unmatched in undergraduate institutions.” More than 50 years later, how has the college’s first program abroad changed? This class will share a brief history of the foundation of the Dickinson program in Bologna, its evolution over the course of the past five decades and how it has adapted to today’s students’ interests and changing local and global conditions. Registration deadline: May 12.
