Picasso and Las Vanguardias: The Avant-Garde and Contemporary Spanish Culture We are going to discuss some broad and fascinating questions around Picasso and his work: How was Picasso’s work new in his era? Does the avant-garde exist today? Does it make sense to talk about the avant-garde in the 21st century? What is avant-garde, if it exists? By examining the numerous possible answers to these questions, we will learn a great deal about contemporary Spanish culture. The event is hosted by Jose Lebrero Stals, with a moderated Q&A by Mark Aldrich. Registration deadline: February 8.
