Dance Theater Group's Alumni Takeover: Dance Movement Therapy with Maddie Vouros

Students will learn about dance/movement therapy through discussion and movement.

Madeleine Vouros was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where she trained at The Philadelphia Dance Academy, in classical ballet and modern, under the direction of Lori Lahnemann. Madeleine received her BA from Dickinson College, majoring in dance with a minor in film. She studied in Arezzo, Italy at the Accademia dell’Arte, where she trained in classical ballet, contemporary, choreography, Tarantella, African dance, Laban movement, Butoh and Tanztheater, under the direction of Massio Gerardi SubsTanz. While studying at the Accademia dell’Arte, she had the opportunity to work with the Slovenian dance company En-Knap, under the direction of Iztok Kovač. Madeleine has worked with BalletX, a Philadelphia based danced company, working in both marketing and in the education outreach program. Madeleine is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy at Sarah Lawrence College.

 

Class Description:

Students will learn about dance/movement therapy through discussion and movement. Students will have the opportunity to engage with principles of Laban and other modalities of dance/movement therapy with a focus on mind-body connection. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how dance can be implemented beyond the studio!
