Meet with Mason Hepner '17 to learn more about the University of Maine's School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA)

University of Maine's School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA).  SPIA is a program for a Master of Arts in Global Policy program students with the tools and professional skills necessary to deal with some of the most pressing global challenges.Students have many concentrations available such as, Environmental Policy, Security and Foreign Policy, Trade and Commerce, and Climate Policy. Students also go on to work in internships at many locations such as Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria (American University in Bulgaria),

Leipzig, Germany (German American Chamber of Commerce California), Nairobi, Kenya (United Nations Environment Programme), Portland, ME (Maine International Trade Center), Washington, DC (Cohen Group, Resources for the Future,U.S. Department of State/Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs), and many others. We also feature a diverse, global core of students from 17 nations and host talks from a variety of speakers, from former ambassadors and secretaries of State and Defense to Foreign Service Officers and local politicians. Our program focuses on providing students with  an understanding of international relations theory and practice, a firm grasp of global economics, the analytic skills to apply concepts to international policy issues in an increasingly fast-paced world, and exposure to the meaning and practice of public service through mentoring from a network of expert practitioners within and beyond the university
