Join Assistant Professor of Political Science David O’Connell for a presentation and conversation about Instagram and how members of Congress are using it.

Instagram is one of the most rapidly growing social media platforms in the world. According to the most recent data, 37% of American adults now use Instagram, making it the third most popular social media app in the country, trailing only YouTube and Facebook. So it's not surprising that members of Congress have increasingly tried to interact with the public on Instagram. But which members are most active on Instagram and why? What kind of posts do their followers engage more with? And what do these trends say about the future of representation in American politics? In this talk, Professor David O'Connell will answer these questions and more by drawing on recent research he has published that analyzes every single post shared by a member of Congress over a six-month period, a total of almost 18,000 posts in all. Please register by Friday, Jan. 10.
