Faculty Recital- James Martin "Songs of Ourselves"

A concert dedicated to American voices of resistance against civil and racial injustice.

James Martin, assistant professor of voice, will premiere Songs of Ourselves with music by David Vayo and text by Amit Majmudar, former poet laureate of Ohio. Works by Tom Cipullo, Margaret Bonds, and Chris DeBlasio with poetry by Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, and Perry Brass will also be featured. James will be joined by guests Lynn Raley (piano), Jennifer Blyth (piano), Stephen Shiffer (trombone), Gregory Strohman (trombone), Alyssa Resh (percussion) and Lucas Conant (percussion). Please be advised: this program contains strong themes regarding social tolerance and injustice.
