Step inside the Goodyear Gallery this time of year and you'll feel it: that crackling creative energy that will burn brighter each week, as class of 2013 studio-art majors feverishly prepare for their final exhibition at Dickinson. And on Nov. 27, they shared the excitement by offering a sneak peek of the big event.

The Nov. 27 exhibition, Senior Studio-Art Seminar: Works in Progress, showcased hot-off-the-presses works  that seniors Christopher Barsanti, Ashley Codd, Jennifer Crowley, Allyson Garrett, Yixue Ge, Shawn Gessay, Sarah Gray, Laura McCauley, Megan Moody, Melissa Smith and Tingxiao Zhang completed this semester and plan to include in their 2013 capstone show. "We've been working pretty hard," said Smith, who chiseled abstract shapes into a slab of dark wood to create an organic piece for the show. "We only have a year to complete this seminar, so you have to become very efficient and keep the end goal in mind."

The students had curated and designed the exhibition as a group, selecting a small collection of sculptures, drawings, paintings, photography, collage, digital art, video and ceramics in a variety of styles. "You don't realize just how many jumps everyone's made in their progress until you see all of the work together, like this," said McCauley, whose silver-gilded triptych blended traditional and modern elements. "It's awesome."

Art & art-history major Dana Angotta '14 added that while she'd seen some of the seniors' works before—one friend often posts photos of her pieces on Instagram—the chance to see them in person was a treat. "It takes a lot of hard work to put together a show like this, and I'm very impressed," she said. "I can't wait to see the final show."
