Harnessing the Power of Internships

Hal Holappa '19, IHS Markit

Major:

International business & management.

Internship title:

Managed services sales intern.

How I got this internship:

I got this internship by networking with family/personal connection.

What I do, day to day:

My daily tasks include reaching out to prospective clients, creating presentations, attending daily meetings/calls and simplifying/creating Excel spreadsheets.

Other internships:

I interned at IHS Markit the previous summer with the same obligations.

Most valuable part of this experience:

This internship has helped me tremendously with public speaking, presentation skills, and Excel proficiency. I have become competent in navigating through websites such as Salesforce.com, Discover.org, and CRM.

Advice for students considering internships:

I would definitely recommend getting internships as early as possible because during the experience, you establish strong relationships with your colleagues that  will last forever. Networking goes very far.

How this internship has helped me:

It has taught me to be more disciplined, attentive, and organized. When I obtain a lot of projects, I have learned how to space out my time accordingly.

Post-Dickinson plans:

I would love a career in finance after college but am not certain about what I want to do specifically in that field. During my time as a student, I plan to expose myself to as many areas as possibly so I know what I want to build my career on once I graduate Dickinson.
