Dickinson music faculty offer vocal and pipe organ performances

Dickinson faculty members will perform music for voice and organ during two major concerts in October.

Jonathan Hays, operatic baritone and instructor of music & voice at Dickinson, will perform a recital of French, Italian, German and American songs with guest pianist Rachelle Jonck. The performance will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. in Rubendall Recital Hall, Weiss Center for the Arts.

Contributing Faculty in Music Douglas Buchanan will present his composition Welkinharmonie, a concert-length work for solo organ. Welkinharmonie was supported by a residency at the Shin Pond Artist’s Retreat and culminated in a performance in October 2015 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Recognized for his “sense of creative imperative” (David Patrick Stearns, The Philadelphia Inquirer) and for music “filled with terrific orchestral color and weight, not to mention feeling,” (Tim Smith, The Baltimore Sun) Buchanan has been nationally identified as an award-winning young composer. Buchanan will perform on the organ in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
