How do Dickinsonians engage with their alma mater? Let's count the ways

Throughout fiscal year 2016, Dickinson offered alumni a host of opportunities to engage with their alma mater in dynamic and meaningful ways, and alumni responded in force. Thousands of alumni celebrated their connection to Dickinson by attending events around the world, by volunteering in support of the college’s mission and by choosing to give to support Dickinson and the future.

Coming together

More than 550 alumni celebrated Dickinson’s 50th anniversary of global studies in Washington, D.C., and an Alumni Global Adventures Trip to Bologna.

Alumni gathered with faculty to discuss everything from the intersection of civil rights and sports to the future of NATO after the Ukraine crisis through 23 regional One College One Community programs around the country.

Lending a hand

Dickinsonians stepped up to serve the college in a number of ways.

  • 50 new Devils’ Advocates
  • 300 career volunteers
  • 285 new DAVS volunteers
  • 8 new Alumni Council members

Investing in Dickinson

The Day of Giving, April 19, brought Dickinsonians around the world together for a historic effort to support the college’s historic mission. 

The Challenge: 2,020 gifts to the college in 24 hours.

The Effort:

  • 2,883 alumni students, parents, faculty, staff and friends
  • 413 gifts from reunion alumni, unlocking a $200,000 challenge gift from an anonymous alumni donor
  • 512 gifts from graduates of the last 10 years, unlocking a $50,000 challenge gift from Eva and Marc Stern ’65
  • 615 gifts between 7 and 9 a.m., unlocking a $10,000 challenge gift from Kevin Holleran ’73
  • and 454 gifts between 12 and 2 p.m., unlocking a $30,000 challenge gift from George and Jennifer Ward Reynolds '77.

The Result: A record-breaking 2,580 gifts totaling $765,124 in 24 hours.

For the year, Dickinsonians have given more than $3.9 million to the Dickinson Fund, supporting every aspect of the Dickinson experience.

That includes:

  • gifts from 5,129 alumni
  • 1,453 reunion gifts totaling $1,441,001
  • gifts from 672 John Dickinson Society members
  • gifts from 4,837 Mermaid Society members
  • and gift intentions from 42 new Old West Society members.
