Impressionist Landscapes

Schofield exhibition, Trout Gallery

Walter Elmer Schofield, Hill Country, c. 1913, oil on canvas. Woodmere Art Museum, Gift of Sydney E. and Seymour Schofield, 1949.

The Trout Gallery will host a reception for its current exhibition, Schofield: Impressionist Landscapes, on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The exhibition surveys the career of Walter Elmer Schofield (1867–1944), a leading member of the Pennsylvania impressionists, who combined the attention to light and color found in paintings by French impressionists with the greater weight and compositional structure of works by the American realists. He specialized in winter views of the Delaware River and summer scenes of Cornwall, England.

The Schofield exhibition runs through Oct. 17. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, email trout@dickinson.edu or call 717-245-1344.
