With more than 5,000 alumni having made a gift to Dickinson this year, alumni support has surpassed 74 percent of the annual participation goal. To reach that goal of 6,850 donors before the end of the fiscal year (June 30), 1,752 alumni need to make a gift in the next six days.
Each year the college sets its Annual Fund participation goal to encourage those who best know the value of the Dickinson experience to help provide that experience to current students. In addition to supporting academic programming, faculty development, facilities enhancements, sustainability and athletics, alumni donors help provide financial aid and scholarships to more than half of the student body.
Class gifts add momentum
Alumni Weekend generated some useful momentum going into the final weeks of the fiscal year when the reunion classes reported a total of $8,404,598 in reunion giving. The class of 1958 brought in the largest reunion gift, which totaled $6,253,748, while the class of 1963 had the highest participation rate, with 64.8 percent making a gift this year.
Jessica Ward '93, who encouraged her classmates during their Alumni Weekend class dinner to contribute to their gift of $159,846, offered some words of inspiration that should appeal to all alumni as the end of the fiscal year draws near.
"We all took part of Dickinson with us when we walked down the steps of Old West twenty years ago, and I believe that we all hold a special place in our hearts for what lies within these limestone walls," she said. "It is still not too late to make a gift to Dickinson ... as the fiscal year does not end until June 30."
