The Global Experience: Florence, Italy

Christina Wolf visits Italy.

 by Christina Wolf '13

As an art-history major with a fascination for the Italian Renaissance, living in Florence, Italy, for a semester was a dream come true. Walking around the city was like living between the pages of one of my art-history textbooks, as priceless and world-famous works of art were always "just around the corner." Despite the overwhelming wealth of culture and history present in Florence, some of my favorite memories derived from the quiet moments I experienced, like an old carriage driver feeding his horse in front of the baptistery, or the perfect view of the Ponte Vecchio just before sunset. It was in these moments that the magic of this ancient city came alive and the lifestyle of Renaissance Italy didn't seem so far away.
