A Message from President Ensign

Mermaid, Old West

Dickinson President Margee sent the following message to the Dickinson community yesterday condemning the violence in the nation's capital:

To our Dickinson community:

Today was an extraordinary day in the history of our country. A tragic and frightening day, and a disgraceful one.

Long a beacon for the rest of the world, a model of how democratic self-government and the rule of law should work, today our nation witnessed a mob mentality by people attempting to interfere with the constitutionally sanctioned peaceful transfer of political power following our national elections. Today we witnessed an attack on the very institutions which have made us great—which have made us the United States of America. These actions must be condemned by all who support our democracy, regardless of political party.

While we are monitoring the situation in Washington, D.C., we also are in touch with state and local law enforcement officials in our area. At this time, local law enforcement is aware of no threats here. However, we have reached out to the students on campus and encouraged them to remain on campus this evening out of an abundance of caution.

I encourage all of you to be careful and to be aware of your surroundings if you are out in the community. If you see something of concern, please be sure to contact police.

Sincerely,

Margee M. Ensign
President
