Introduction to Stage Technology Gets Students to Sew at Home

Facing a virtual Fall 2020 semester, Professor of Theatre Sherry Harper-McCombs found a way to bring her Introduction to Stage Technology course to life at home.

Utilizing a Practical Life Skill for the Common Good

Though it's no easy task holding rigorous college courses remotely, Dickinson's faculty members have worked hard to ensure this semester would be as fruitful and rewarding as any other. For Professor of Theatre Sherry Harper-McCombs and the students in her Introduction to Stage Technology course, that meant bringing the curriculum—and, ultimately, the theatre production—right into their homes. 

Refurbished sewing machines were sent to the students, who followed Harper-McCombs' videos to learn various techniques. "We have one [sewing machine] going to Kansas, and one that may go to Mexico," she said.
