What Happens When Home Is Not Safe?

Dickinson will host a virtual discussion with a panel of experts about how staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic may not be safe for some people. The livestream event, “Providing Safe Shelter When Home is Not a Haven from Crisis,” will take place Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m. The link to view the event will be available on the Clarke Forum website at 6:50 that evening. Members of the public are invited to watch the discussion and submit questions for panelists in the comments section of the YouTube live stream.

Around the world, people are being told to stay home to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. In this discussion, panelists will ask: What happens if your home is not safe to shelter-in-place? How are COVID-19 and government recommendations to stay at home impacting members of our community who are at risk? Representatives from local social service agencies will talk about what their organizations and programs are doing to support survivors in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and what resources are available for individuals and families who are at risk at home.

Panelists include Sonya Brown of Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties, Scott Shewell of Safe Harbour, Colleen Kinney of the YWCA Carlisle and Jason Brode of the AMEND Program.

The event is sponsored by the Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues.
