Internship Spotlight: Muhammad Burhan '21, ReturnLogic

Muhammed Burhan

As a data science intern with ReturnLogic, Muhammad Burhan '21 got firsthand experience managing e-commerce platforms for fashion brands and assisted the brands with data-driven solutions.

Mathematics, computer science.

Internship title and location:

Data science intern, ReturnLogic.

What I do, day to day:

As an e-commerce data analyst. I was able to hone my skills in R, tableau and SQL to analyze data about numerous fashion brands and communicate my findings by writing reports, case studies and articles to address business, returns and sales problems in the fashion industry. I wrote more than 100 technical articles to assist the customer-management team by explaining my company’s software and the return-management platform it provides.

Most valuable part of this experience:

My favorite part was collaborating with the business, marketing and engineering teams to identify potential problems for our customers (fashion brands) and the company and provide data-driven solutions for effective decisions. Each intern or employee in the company has a unique story, which was very inspiring to me, and I enjoyed working and getting to know people from different backgrounds and interests.

Other internships:

This summer I was also a part-time prospect research intern with [the Dickinson] College [Office of] Advancement and also in the managing team of the Presidential Fellowship. I enjoy managing and hosting weekly calls for the 27 Presidential Fellows, providing them with any daily assistance with the fellowship related tasks, and analyzing/organizing the data that came from the fellowship and over 700 interviews that were completed. I have worked in the Office of College Advancement since my first year, and this leadership experience has been a unique opportunity through which I was further able to improve my skills in data analytics, management and problem-solving.

Advice for students considering internships:

Making meaningful connections with the alumni and other leaders in your industry is a great way to learn from others who have already gone through the process and struggles you are going through. I encourage attending alumni events and networking receptions organized by the college. Please do not be afraid to ask questions on LinkedIn or sign up for informational interviews with the representatives from your favorite companies.
