CARE Team

What is the CARE Team?

The CARE (Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education) Team assists with any situation that could disrupt a student's academic or social well-being within the Dickinson community.  We hope to intervene early, when possible, to help support the student.  The team reviews individual cases and coordinates an appropriate action plan for response.

The team brings together administrators and seeks to review information from various areas across campus to provide a whole view of the situation.  It includes the Associate Vice President for Student Life, Executive Director of the Wellness Center, Chief of Public Safety,  Executive Director of Campus Life, Director of Student Conduct, a representative from the General Counsel's office, Dean of Academic Advising, and the Director of Student Support (team chair).  As needed, the team will include other administrators who may provide assistance, given their relationship with the student. The team meets weekly to review cases and incorporate any additional concerns.

The mission of the CARE Team is to:

  • Coordinate a structured method for addressing student behaviors that cause distress in the Dickinson community, including mental health and/or safety issues
  • Assess the whole situation, combining information from various areas across the campus
  • Respond to balancing the individual needs of the student and those of the greater campus community
  • Educate the Dickinson community by creating awareness and providing access to resources for student support

For examples of when to refer to the CARE Team, please see the information found on the Student Support page.
