Dickinson College requires that research or educational activities that use recombinant DNA technology or potentially infectious agents be reviewed and approved by an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to ensure that they are conducted in a safe and appropriate manner, and in accordance with federal regulations and guidelines published by NIH, CDC, OSHA and other funding and/or regulatory agencies.
The Dickinson College IBC is authorized to approve, require modifications, or disapprove research protocols. Dickinson College IBC membership composition includes individuals with expertise in recombinant / synthetic nucleic acid technology, biosafety and physical containment, and animal / plant research. The committee also includes two members not affiliated with the college.
