Center for Talented Youth program calls Dickinson home

Arriving with summer at Dickinson each year are summer enrichment programs, and for more than three decades, among them have been those offered through Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). This year's Intensive Studies program offers sessions in math, science, writing and humanities, pillars of the college's own liberal-arts education.

"Having CTY on campus really fits into Dickinson's mission of preparing young people by means of a useful education," says Dottie Warner, Dickinson's director of event planning & the Holland Union Building and the program's Dickinson liaison.

Designed for, as the CTY Web site says, "students who are ready for intense college-level course work and accelerated study in specific disciplines," the Intensive Studies program comprises two three-week sessions that "engage students in the same amount of material that would normally be covered in a semester-long college course or a year-long high-school course."

Providing facilities and services for the 400 or so participants and roughly 100 administrators, Dickinson has welcomed the program since 1982, when CTY's then-director William G. Durden '71 chose the college as host.
