Hometown: Haikou, China
Graduate School: Carnegie Mellon University
Field of Study: computer science, programming languages and computer graphics

How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?

Dickinson provided me with the valuable first experience in conducting scientific research. I am grateful that [Associate] Professor [of Computer Science] John MacCormick provided me with the chance to finish my honors thesis. Thanks to the small class size and support by my thesis committee and the department, I was able to receive full attention and tremendous help from everyone. In short, this experience eventually led me to the path of pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science, and I thank Dickinson for making it possible.

Internship Experience

Carnegie Mellon University, research for undergraduate students, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

The moment when Professor MacCormick walked out of Tome 115, outside of which I'd been nervously waiting for 10 minutes for the final decision on my honors thesis. He said, "Congratulations" and shook my hand.
