Award-winning celebrity chef and author Hugh Acheson hosted a taco-making demonstration on Britton Plaza on Tuesday, Nov. 14, to promote and sell signed copies of his new cookbook, The Chef & The Slow Cooker. Students flocked to the table for a chance to purchase a taco, made with 12-hour roasted pork shoulder, queso fresco, tomatillo salsa and cilantro. One hundred percent of the taco sales benefited Seed Life Skills, a charity Acheson founded to provide resources for teachers providing hands-on culinary instruction, offering lessons in conscious consumer economics and teaching DIY design principles.
"Dickinson just evokes something that's palpable and exciting to me," Acheson said. "The farm that Matt and Jen are running is just phenomenal. I think the kids here are great. It's a beautiful small, college town and it's a simpatico—the best places to go are always simpaticos. I like it here, and they seem to like what we do."
