Student workers contribute to the College Farm in innumerable ways

by Lauren Davidson

Student workers are vital to the life of the Dickinson College Farm, from planting and harvesting in the fields to working with the animals to coordinating deliveries to the Dining Hall and Farmers on the Square. The highly diversified farm requires that a lot of hands get dirty to accomplish feeding and educating the community. This video by environmental-science major, Baird Sustainability fellow and farm worker Emily Bowie ’14 highlights the dynamic people and critical projects responsible for keeping the farm running.

“My past videos for the farm have focused on specific programs and the different steps—this one really highlighted the actual student experience, and I really enjoyed that,” Bowie says. “I learned the value of interviewing people about their experiences, dreams and past reflections.”

Bowie’s work with the College Farm is not yet complete. She has signed on as one of four six-month farm apprentices this summer and fall.
