Prior to her arrival at Dickinson College, Dr. Michele Lee Kozimor was professor of sociology at Elizabethtown College. She grew up in Clark, New Jersey and received her BA from Elizabethtown College in sociology and English literature in 1993. Her MA and PHD are from The Pennsylvania State University in sociology. She has a strong record of meritorious teaching and dedication to innovative instruction, mentoring, and professional development of students, staff, and faculty. Most recently, Dr. Kozimor was the recipient of the 2024 American Sociological Association’s Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award, the highest award for teaching from the disciplinary organization. Dr. Kozimor was also the second recipient of the Excellence in Teaching First-Year Seminars Award from the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. She served as the editor and deputy editor of the American Sociological Association quarterly journal Teaching Sociology for ten years. In addition to editorial experience with Teaching Sociology, she co-edited two volumes Learning from Each Other: Refining the Practice of Teaching in Higher Education (published by the University of California Press in August 2018) and Emerging Stronger: Pedagogical Lessons from the Pandemic (published by Routledge Press in 2024). Dr. Kozimor was also the 2019 recipient of the American Sociological Association Section on Teaching and Learning Hans O. Mauksch Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology and the 2023 Carla B. Howery Award for Developing Teacher-scholars. Dr. Kozimor previously served as the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Elizabethtown College from 2014-2017 and was the 2018-2019 recipient of the Kreider Prize for Teaching Excellence at Elizabethtown College. She has previously served as the Faculty Mentor to the Elizabethtown College Varsity Softball Team for nearly 10 years before being appointed as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) at Elizabethtown College. Her current research examines the culture of the motorsport called North American stage rally. During her leisure time, Michele enjoys spending time with her horse, Sahara, volunteering at Hershey Gardens and Fallingwater, and mining for Herkimer “diamonds” in upstate New York.
