The security of student information is of paramount importance. Wherever possible, use the web forms provided rather than email (which is insecure when unencrypted) to share student information. Below are full details on our confidentiality and computer and work area policies.

Confidentiality

As a member of AVN you will have access to and may be working with confidential records and information. As articulated below, you are required to safeguard the confidentiality of college, office and student information and documents.

  • You are prohibited from sharing what you learn about individuals with anyone other than the college representatives with whom you are in communication. This includes a prohibition on oral or written sharing of information.

  • Your obligation to maintain these confidences continues indefinitely and beyond the time you serve as a member of AVN.

Computer and Work Area

  • Do not leave documents containing personal information on your screen or on your desk when you are not present.
  • Do not print, forward, or otherwise share individual or institutional confidential information with others.
  • Electronically stored confidential information that no longer needs to be retained should be destroyed by permanent deletion.
  • Hard copies of confidential information that no longer need to be retained should be destroyed by shredding.

Eligibility

AVN members are graduates or parents of a Dickinsonian who are comfortable discussing the Dickinson of today, enjoy working with prospective students of diverse backgrounds, interested in representing Dickinson as a positive ambassador, and regularly review online training materials who have no conflicts of interest such as: 

  • working in admissions (or related consulting or counseling)
  • interviewing for any other undergraduate college or university in the same cycle
  • having a child or sibling in a college search 
  • close family ties to someone with a conflict of interest

As a college community and in accordance with the guidelines of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), we recognize that the college-selection process is stressful and hope to foster a respectful, straightforward and honest environment for all involved.
