Graduate School Agreements in Public Health & Health Data Science

Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health

Qualified students enrolled in an undergraduate program at Dickinson may apply to Columbia’s 4+2 MPH program during their senior year of undergraduate studies. Accepted students will be required to successfully complete their undergraduate program at Dickinson and fulfill all degree requirements at Columbia’s New York campus for the MPH degree.

Qualifications

Students must meet Columbia’s routine MPH program qualifications and submit the proper material:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.5
  • A 500-word personal statement stating interest in the program
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Proficiency in English, as demonstrated by 100 on the IBT TOEFL or 7.0 on the IELTS (for international students)

The GRE requirement will be waived. The Dickinson program liaison will review all applications from Dickinson students and then forward to Columbia the names of those who are recommended by Dickinson along with a letter of support. Application materials should be submitted by November 1 to Assistant Director of Academic Advising Erik Sutherland.

TULANE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH & TROPICAL MEDICINE

This agreement provides two options for Dickinson students who are receiving an undergraduate degree from Dickinson and wish to continue their studies at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine to receive a master's of public health (MPH) degree.

Qualified students enrolled in an undergraduate program at Dickinson may apply to one of the two options during the fall of their senior year of undergraduate studies. Accepted students will be required to successfully complete their undergraduate program at Dickinson and fulfill all degree requirements at Tulane’s campus for the MPH degree in which they are enrolled.

Option 1 (accelerated)

The accelerated MPH program provides Dickinson students the opportunity to take classes at Tulane during the spring semester of their senior year at Dickinson and then to complete their education through one and a half additional years of study at Tulane, culminating in the conferral of a MPH degree upon completion of all degree requirements. The conferral of the MPH degree requires successful completion of the undergraduate degree at Dickinson.

Option 2 (alumni priority)

With this option, qualified Dickinson students are eligible for priority admission to the Tulane MPH program. Students will begin the two-year master’s in public health at Tulane following graduation from Dickinson.

Qualifications

Students applying to Tulane under either option must meet Tulane’s routine master’s program qualifications and submit the proper material:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
  • A written statement of purpose and objectives
  • A resume
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Proficiency in English, as demonstrated by 89 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS (for international students)

The GRE requirement will be waived. The Dickinson program liaison will review all applications from Dickinson students and then forward to Tulane the names of those who are recommended by Dickinson along with a letter of support. Application materials should be submitted by November 1 to Assistant Director of Academic Advising Erik Sutherland.

Thomas Jefferson University

Through Dickinson's pre-health program, students interested in careers in healthcare are advised and mentored in preparing for the next step. Students recommended by the pre-health committee have had great success, and the agreement Dickinson has with Thomas Jefferson University further supports our students' success in pursuing advanced study in the fields of public health and health data science.

Jefferson College of Population Health

Dickinson students with a 3.3 GPA or higher receive priority admission to the Jefferson College of Population Health’s following programs:

  • Master of Public Health MPH (online and in-person delivery options)
  • Master of Public Health/Ph.D. Population Health Science Dual Degree MPH/P.D.
  • Master of Science in Health Data Science HDS
