This spring, we started to renovate the Holland Union Building (HUB). The HUB renovation has been discussed for more than a decade and postponed repeatedly due to the large price tag. It is now time to make this bold investment in our future and in the student experience, as outlined in our strategic plan.
A multi-year plan to address this critical project will allow us to make significant improvements while being fiscally responsible. This phased approach also means that the work will be done in small chunks, often during the summer and over breaks, to minimize disruptions to the student experience as much as possible.
Fall 2025 Renovation Route Map
With construction underway on Britton Plaza, alternate routes are required to access the HUB. This map, along with other details, are available to assist visitors and members of the campus community:
improve the dining hall, including new serving stations, upgraded equipment and a modern aesthetic throughout (complete)
create an open floor plan for both the upper and lower levels, adding natural light to the dining hall and lobby, and create a new stairway to replace the spiral staircase (the former restrooms have been removed and the new central staircase is open, but finishing work will continue through the fall semester)
create welcoming student-gathering areas (work on the lower level conference room is nearing completion)
transform both the Britton Plaza and College Street entrances, making them more inviting and accessible (College Street entrance complete; Britton Plaza work began in mid-May 2025 and will be completed in 2026.)
modernize the restrooms (complete)
update the social halls (the east and center social halls are available to reserve through CASE, but they are under renovation and will be completed throughout the semester. The west social hall will be offline until the new addition is completed in spring 2026)
upgrade electrical systems and generators (summer 2026 through winter 2026)
These changes are scheduled to be completed in 2026. Stay tuned for additional updates.
