HUB Renovation Project

In spring 2025, we started to renovate the Holland Union Building (HUB). The HUB renovation has been discussed for more than a decade and postponed repeatedly due to the large price tag. It is now time to make this bold investment in our future and in the student experience, as outlined in our strategic plan. 

A multi-year plan to address this critical project will allow us to make significant improvements while being fiscally responsible. This phased approach also means that the work will be done in small chunks, often during the summer and over breaks, to minimize disruptions to the student experience as much as possible. 

• improve the dining hall, including new serving stations, upgraded equipment and a modern aesthetic throughout (complete)  
• create an open floor plan for both the upper and lower levels, adding natural light to the dining hall and lobby, and create a new stairway to replace the spiral staircase (the former restrooms have been removed and the new central staircase is open, but finishing work will continue through the spring semester)
• create welcoming student-gathering areas (the new addition seating area and lower level conference room are open, and furniture has been added throughout the upper and lower lobbies) 
• transform both the Britton Plaza and College Street entrances, making them more inviting and accessible (College Street entrance complete; Britton Plaza work will be completed in 2026. Note that the new seal will arrive in May, and the old seal has been installed in Britton Plaza in the interim.)
• modernize the restrooms (complete) 
• update the social halls (complete)
• upgrade electrical systems and generators (summer 2026 through winter 2026)

These changes are scheduled to be completed in 2026. Stay tuned for additional updates.
