This trip was part of a First Year Seminar on Natural Disasters, run in Fall 2005. Six first year students attended along with 10 other students, including several senior Geology majors. The trip was run over fall pause and lasted 4 days. The main goal of the trip was visiting the island of Heimaey, on one of the volcanically-active Vestmannaeyjar islands, off the south coast of Iceland. The town was nearly overwhelmed by lava flows in 1973. See
