Style Guide

Goals

Our writers and editors have two primary goals: to write engagingly, in a way that reflects the vibrancy of the global Dickinson community, and to write well, in alignment with the college’s high academic standards. They accomplish the first goal by telling Dickinson’s stories with passion. They accomplish the second goal by adhering to the college’s official style guides.

Developed by the editorial team to ensure that all college communications are stylistically consistent, the Dickinson Style Guide sets the standard for Dickinson-specific terms, such as official departmental names. It is a key resource for all members of the campus community.

Grammar and Usage

For other matters of grammar, punctuation and usage, the editorial staff refers to the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook. For terms not included in AP Style, they consult The American Heritage College Dictionary.
