Starting on July 30, Dickinson College will begin to transition to a new Gateway portal system. This new system will integrate the portal and college web site. Users will be able to log in to the web site and move seamlessly between public web content and private portal content.
Because the new Gateway will be integrated with the web site, it will share the look and feel of the main web site design. There are a few changes in the location of familiar tools and content. In the existing Gateway, external applications, like email or Banner Self Service, are found in a series of icons at the top of the screen. The new system gives you access to these same systems through a pop-up Application Tool Pad at the bottom of every screen once you log in to the web site. They also are available on the home page of your Gateway. In the existing Gateway, there are tabs to take you to sets of content. The new Gateway replaces the tabs with a menu on the left of the screen. The menu contains familiar content for various constituencies.
On July 30, when you choose to log in to the Gateway from the college web site you will be asked to choose whether to go to the existing Gateway portal or the new Gateway portal. This will give users a chance to explore the new portal and get familiar with it before we fully cut over to the new portal. The traditional portal will remain accessible through the end of September.
New Gateway Portal Login Preview
You can find the Gateway "Log in" button at the bottom right of any page on the Dickinson Web site. Clicking this button will allow you to choose between logging in the the New or Traditional Gateway. Once you have made your selection, you should enter your username and password to complete the log in process.
Once you log in, you will see your name at the bottom right of every page. Along with your name you will see the Application Pad icon (a set of small blocks) and a "Sign Out" button.
Clicking the Application Pad icon will reveal the Application Pad. This is your launching point to get to Gateway content and many other Dickinson systems, like email and Moodle.
The Gateway Home page is the entry point to your portal content on the Dickinson Web site. From here, you have access to other Dickinson applications, a menu of services, and information tailored to your specific needs.
Your Gateway menu gives you access to other Gateway pages targeted to you on the basis of your roles as student, faculty member, employee, or alumni. Each of these pages contains content specific to the intended audience.
The Gateway menu also points you to audience resource pages on the Web site. These pages are publicly accessible without logging into the Gateway. They contain links to resources throughout the Web site that may be of use to the intended audience.
