Strategic Planning Meeting Updates

February 2016

Strategic Planning Monthly Update- February 12, 2016

During the winter break and at the start of the second semester, the Strategic Planning Committee continued its work. In December and early January, four working groups spent time reviewing research and the feedback gathered from many campus constituencies to inform the development of the environmental scan. In the coming weeks, these separate documents will be consolidated and edited to include in the final plan. Additionally, we have continued to work on the college’s mission, vision and values statement, letting the process continue to inform the development of that document.

In late January, the SPC had a half-day retreat during which President Roseman joined us to discuss the process, and each of the four working groups shared their work to-date and discussed our pending meeting with the Board of Trustees. On January 30, the SPC spent two and a half hours engaged in a robust discussion with the trustees, sharing ideas and considering questions such as “How does the college leverage its strengths and assets?” and “What should our strategic priorities be for the next five years?” This session was facilitated by Chris Gulotta ’72, who has extensive experience in strategic planning and facilitation.

Earlier this week, the SPC had a lively, thorough discussion regarding all of the inputs we have received and the key themes which are emerging as strategic priorities for Dickinson. The committee will divide into three working groups to develop a narrative around these concepts and, importantly, consider how these themes intersect, and goals which support the college’s distinctive work in these areas. We are also considering the best method by which we can continue to gather feedback from the college community on these themes and supporting goals. We will share more information with you in the coming weeks regarding next steps. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to email us at planning@dickinson.edu with any questions, suggestions or comments.
