The Office of LGBTQ Services recognizes the need to honor those who support, advocate for, and work toward creating an inclusive campus environment. Each year, during the Lavender Reception Ceremony we honor those within our community who have and continue to make significant contributions to Dickinson and LGBTQQIA+ equality.
 

OUTstanding Service Award

The OUTstanding Service Award is presented to individuals within the Dickinson College community who identify as queer (LGBTQQIA) and have been actively involved in social justice work to create a more inclusive Dickinson community. 
 
These individuals may have shown:
  • Proven and documented leadership and service on campus to the LGBTQQIA community at Dickinson
  • Dedication to working towards improving campus or community policies affecting LGBTIQQIA-identified persons;
  • Solidarity and coalition building within the LGBTQQIA community

Ally Recognition Award

The Ally Recognition Award is presented to members of the Dickinson College community who have shown active allyship to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual community at Dickinson College. 
 
This person's personal commitment to fighting oppression and prejudice should reflect a willingness to:
  • educate oneself about different identities and experiences
  • challenge one’s own discomfort and prejudices
  • learn and practice the skills of being an ally
  • take action to create interpersonal, societal and institutional change.

Alumni OUTStanding Service Award

The OUTstanding Alumni Service Award recognizes outstanding service and advocacy regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) concerns, with our thanks for active and continued contributions to improving the environment for the LGBTQ community in local, state, and national arenas.

The Lambda Service Award

The Greek letter Lambda was selected as a symbol by the Gay Activists Alliance of New York in 1970. In December 1974, the Lambda was officially declared the international symbol for gay and lesbian rights by the International Gay Rights Congress and is known to signify unity under oppression. 
The Lambda Service Award is presented to individuals at Dickinson in order to honor their service and dedication to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community at Dickinson College and for bringing a spirit of unity to a community seeking support and resources.
