Bio

Ruth Hunter, a graduate of the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music, studied harp with Eileen Malone at Eastman. She is the recipient of many music awards, and the Joseph O’Connor Award for excellence in Latin from the University of Rochester. Ruth was a first place winner in the Hartford Symphony and Manchester (CT) Young Artists’ Competitions. Ms. Hunter has played for programs on CBS television and National Public Radio, and is principal harpist with the Nittany Valley and Williamsport Symphonies. Ruth has premiered many works for harp and chamber ensembles, and appeared as soloist with the Williamsport, Bucknell, and University of Rochester Symphony Orchestras. In 2008 she was harpist with the Susquehanna University Orchestra in a performance at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed at Music at Strathmore, Alice Tully Hall NYC, and Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh. Ruth performs and teaches throughout the Central PA area and has been adjunct harp instructor at Dickinson College for four years. In addition, she is adjunct instructor in harp at Susquehanna University, Messiah College, and Bucknell University. She also teaches privately at Penn State and in her home studio. Ruth coaches students of all ages – young (and adult) beginners to college graduate students.
