Gen Z in Action: Dickinson to Host Panel on Organizing Against Gun Violence
Panelists will outline how young people can work toward positive change
Dickinson will host a panel discussion with young experts on gun violence prevention, grassroots activism and advocacy. The event, Organizing Against Gun Violence: Gen Z in Action, will take place Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium, 360 W. Louther St. This event is free and open to the public.
The panelists are:
- Andrew Ankamah Jr., founder and director of the national organization Accountability Initiative, dedicated to justice-centered youth advocacy, community engagement and violence prevention
- Jaclyn Corin, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, who, along with classmates, successfully lobbied for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act and now works on outreach and organizing efforts for March for Our Lives
- Larren Wells, an advocate for gun violence prevention since high school, where she joined a chapter of the organization Students Demand Action. Wells later initiated a chapter at the University of Pittsburgh, which continues to support and safeguard the larger Pittsburgh community.
During this event, they'll share how they became involved in the fight against gun violence, the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. They’ll then explore what it takes to sustain a successful movement—from creating cross-generational coalitions to fighting pushback and emotional fatigue—and will outline their own day-to-day strategies.
