Internship Spotlight: Ethan Johnson '22, U.S. Department of the Treasury

Ethan Johnson

In his first internship, Ethan Johnson '22 is gaining valuable experience working for the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Major:

Political science.

Internship title and location:

Office of Financial Research intern, U.S. Department of the Treasury.

How I got this internship:

I discovered and applied for this Internship through "USAJobs.gov"

What I do, day to day:

On a day-to-day basis I assist the deputy chief operating officer of the Office of Financial Research (OFR) in facilitating a facility security committee for the leased building that OFR resides in. I also update the content on the OFR SharePoint website using HTML.

Other internships:

I hope to intern in Italy during the summers of 2020 or 2021.

Most valuable part of this experience:

For me, the most valuable part of this internship is the experience I am getting in a government department. In the future when I graduate, this experience as an intern for the Treasury Department will go a long way in helping me build a career that aligns with my major and my interests.

Advice for students considering internships:

Whether the internship is paid or not, always put forth your best effort. An internship is merely a "foot in the door" preparing you for life after college. That being said, don't be afraid to make mistakes; just live and learn.

How this internship has helped me:

This internship has prepared me for my next year as well as my overall life at Dickinson by teaching me to be more professional when interacting with my peers, professors, counselors or coaches.

Post-Dickinson plans:

While I am not entirely sure what the future holds for me, for now, I hope to have a career in government working in some capacity for one of the several governmental agencies: CIA, FBI, NSA, DIA, etc.
