Dickinson Closes the Books on Record-Breaking Day of Giving

Day of Giving

Day of Giving

Event marks highest number of contributions to date

The final numbers are in for Dickinson’s fifth annual Day of Giving, and it was a rousing success. With more gifts pouring in from Dickinson alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff members and friends of the college than ever before within a 24-hour period, the one-day annual event broke all previous records, making it the most successful Day of Giving to date.

Day of Giving is an opportunity for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff members and friends of the college to join together and show the love to Dickinson and current Dickinson students by supporting scholarships, internships, athletics programs and other enriching student experiences. This year's event was held Tuesday, April 23.

Dickinsonians across campus and around the world gave a combined 3,898 gifts, big and small, during a 24-hour period, adding up to $1,032,627 in gifts. That included 919 gifts during the two-hour Power Lunch Challenge alone!

Dickinson offers additional thanks to the generous Dickinsonians who laid down the gauntlet with challenge gifts:

  • Dickinson Fund: Inspired by 1,906 gifts made and $475,000 raised in support of the Dickinson Fund, George and Jennifer Ward Reynolds '77 have pledged an additional $50,000. The Dickinson Fund supports every aspect of the Dickinson experience, and is applied to the area of greatest need.
  • Internship Challenge: Inspired by a challenge from an anonymous alumni couple, 198 gifts were made in support of internships, providing the funding many students need to travel for and take on important but lower-paying or unpaid internships. The total internship funds raised was $40,600.
  • Parents Challenge: Dickinson parents came in strong with 552 parent donors represented this year! We unlocked an additional $12,000 thanks to a challenge gift from anonymous parent donors.
  • Power Lunch Challenge: After more than 919 donors made their gifts between noon and 2 p.m. (EDT), Kevin Holleran ’73 gave an additional $10,000.
  • Class of 2018 and P’18 Challenge: For every $25 given by members of the class of 2018 or parents of graduates of the class of 2018, Claudia O’Brien P’18 contributed $100.
  • Reunion Challenge: Thanks to two anonymous donors who are celebrating a reunion this year, after we reached 500 donors from alumni who are celebrating a landmark reunion this year (classes ending in 4s or 9s), we unlocked an additional $25,000.
  • Senior Class Challenge: To help inspire at least 40 percent of the class of 2019 to make a gift to the college before graduation, Doug Pauls ’80 and the Board of Trustees contributed an extra $5,000 to the Senior Class challenge, once that goal had been met.
  • All-Athletics Competition: Bragging rights go to the men's lacrosse team, with 188 gifts this year! Congratulations also to all athletic donors, as gifts to the McAndrews Fund for Athletics for every team, were up significantly this year!

THANK YOU!

Thank you, Dickinsonians near and far, for making our fifth Day of Giving a triumphant and community-strengthening event. You are making a real difference in our students’ lives.
