All Dickinsonians called to join April 23 challenge

Dickinson College kicks off its fifth annual Day of Giving with seismic enthusiasm today, calling for Dickinsonians the world over to join in a historic philanthropic event for the college.

Alumni, students, staff, parents and friends of the college are called to “make waves” and "catch fire"—drawing inspiration from the college’s beloved icons, the mermaid and the Red Devil—by making a gift in support of difference-making students and the college that prepares them to make be game-changers in their communities and in the wider world.

The goal for the April 23 event is to help our community reach 4,000 gifts in one day—the largest and most ambitious Day of Giving goal to date—in support of the Dickinson Fund, the McAndrews Fund for Athletics, scholarships and internships.

The Tuesday, April 23, event includes special challenges and competitions in support of game-changing students:

  • Dickinson Fund Challenge: When the Dickinson Fund reaches 2,000 donors, we will unlock an additional $50,000, thanks to George and Jennifer Ward Reynolds '77.
  • Internship Challenge: Thanks to an anonymous alumni couple, when internships hit 500 donors, we will unlock an additional $12,500.
  • Parents Challenge: Thanks to anonymous parent donors, when we reach 500 parent donors, we will unlock an additional $12,000.
  • Power Lunch Challenge: If 500 donors make their gifts between noon and 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Kevin Holleran ’73 will give an additional $10,000.
  • Class of 2018 and P’18 Challenge: For every $25 given by members of the class of 2018 or parents of graduates of the class of 2018, Claudia O’Brien P’18 will contribute $100, up to a maximum of $10,000.
  • Reunion Challenge: Thanks to two anonymous class of 1969 donors, if we reach 500 donors from alumni who are celebrating a reunion this year (classes ending in 4s or 9s), we will unlock an additional $25,000.
  • Senior Class Challenge: The senior class has a goal of reaching 40% participation this year. Doug Pauls ’80 and the Board of Trustees will contribute an extra $5,000 if 240 members of the senior class make a gift.
  • All-Athletics Competition: Bragging rights go to the sports team with the most donors on April 23—let’s see that Red Devil pride.
  • Men’s Lacrosse vs. Football Competition: The men’s lacrosse and football teams will engage in a friendly competition to see who can get the most contributions.

The 2019 Day of Giving builds on momentum from last year's event, during which more than 3,500 Dickinsonians united to give nearly $1 million in a single day to support Dickinson’s mission of preparing students to forge a brighter future.
