Optum Rx - Prescription Benefit Manager effective July 1, 2023

We’re pleased to announce that beginning July 1, 2023, Dickinson College’s prescription benefit coverage will be managed by Optum Rx.

Dickinson College is capitalizing on an opportunity to join the Preferred University Rx Purchasing Coalition (PURPC) which is a partnership of 40+ similar colleges and universities across the Northeast and Mid-West. By joining the Coalition, the college will receive greater discounts for prescription cost and administration. PURPC utilizes Optum Rx to administer the program and Optum Rx will be Dickinson College’s prescription vendor beginning July 1, 2023, for all health plan participants.

The member’s pharmacy benefit levels will remain the same and the availability of mail-order service will continue.

With the change to Optum Rx, employees that participate in the health plan will receive a new health plan member ID card from Meritain Health and a welcome letter from Optum Rx in late June. Participants should present their new ID card each time they fill a prescription after July 1, either through a retail outlet or through the mail-order program.

If you have eligible refills remaining with your current prescriptions, either at a retail pharmacy or through home delivery, you are encouraged to fill them prior to the change on July 1, 2023.

If you currently participate in mail order, prescriptions with open refills will be transferred to Optum Rx Home Delivery in July. You will need to provide Optum Rx Home Delivery with payment information to continue service.

If you are new to home delivery, please request a prescription from your healthcare provider to be submitted electronically to Optum Rx Home Delivery. Once complete, you can then call Optum Rx customer service or use your online account to provide your payment information and verify your address to begin the home delivery service. Prescriptions can be automatically re-filled every 90 days and Optum Rx will work with your healthcare provider to auto-renew your prescription upon your last fill. Participants will also have the option to pick up their 90-day supply prescriptions at any participating retail pharmacy with Optum Rx for the same copay savings as Optum Rx Home Delivery.

Every year, and with any change in vendors, changes are made to the prescription formulary which determines the member’s copay or cost share and any therapy protocols (i.e. prior authorization or step-therapy for specific medications). Please review the “Transitioning to Optum Rx” booklet for detailed information.

An electronic version of the formulary is also available at www.optumrx.com/oe_premium/landing.

To search for a medication’s coverage, click “Prescription drug list”:
-    Select the “Premium” plan;
-    Search by Drug Name or Therapeutic Class;
-    Once the medication is located, a details page will show dosages available, the drug’s coverage tier, and any restrictions in place such as prior authorization or step therapy.

Please note the excluded medications list contained in the formulary. If you are currently prescribed one of the “Excluded Medications,” you should work with your healthcare provider and explore a transition to a covered alternative therapy. After July 1, 2023, you will pay the full price of any Excluded Medications unless a "coverage request" from your healthcare provider is approved by Optum Rx. You or your healthcare provider can begin this process by calling the Optum Rx number on your new health plan member ID card.

After July 1, 2023, you can visit Optum Rx’s website at www.optumrx.com and create an online account or download the mobile app by searching Optum Rx in the app store.

Optum Rx’s customer service will be available to assist members starting July 1st by calling 1-800-382-0754.

With Optum Rx, you'll have access to:

You’ll also be able to have up to a 90-day supply of most maintenance medications filled at a participating retail pharmacy. international prescription pharmaceutical benefit

CRX International - (Inception at Dickinson - May 1, 2014)

Access information for CRX International by visiting www.crxintl.com, and LOG-IN by entering the Web ID: DICKINSON

CRX is a cost saving international mail order drug program for brand name prescriptions from Tier-1 countries, administered by CRX International.  This is a voluntary and safe program for employees and their dependents on Dickinson's group health plan which does not replace the prescription benefit included with the group health plan.  Participation with CRX International is an opportunity for covered members to take an active role in their healthcare and reduce their out-of-pocket prescription expenses while helping to minimize the overall prescription cost to the Dickinson College group health plan.

COVID-19 UPDATE:  CRX is advising plan participants to use their Canadian address (below) when mailing correspondence to ensure they receive it and reduce delays in processing time.

235 Eugenie St. W., Suite 105D
Windsor, ON  Canada  N8X 2X7

In addition, it’s important to remember that all of the medications shipped to members from CRX contracted pharmacies in Canada, Australia and the U.K. are in the original factory sealed package and opened only at their final destination by the patient. Secondly, with a mail order program like CRX, the member receives their medication at their home and does not have to go to their local pharmacy and be in contact with others.

While CRX cannot predict future medication supply issues, they feel their model of issuing a 90-day supply of medication has their clients well-positioned in the event of a shortage. CRX has begun to reach out to patients coming due for refills in advance, and is willing to issue refills up to 30-days early for patients concerned about possible supply shortages.

CRX will continue to monitor the COVID-19 virus and adapt policies that protect the health and safety of both their employees and customers.
