Sustain IT: Ethical Clothing Consumption: Upcycling Your Future

April 30, 2019

Learn to upcycle clothing items in a more environmentally mindful and accessible way.

"Nice sweater! Where did you get it from?" Do you ever think about where your clothes come from? Have you considered the environmental impact of their production, or where they end up when you’re done with them? The fashion industry is one of the largest waste creating systems on the planet and it’s connected to a multitude of other environmental, social, and ethical implications.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to join us for this interactive workshop to talk about the fast fashion industry and learn skills like clothing repair (patching and hemming), screen printing (bring a t-shirt to print) and cool crafts like homemade scrunchies. Attend to upcycle clothing items in a more environmentally mindful and accessible way, with help from the Dickinson Free xChange and student, faculty and staff volunteers.

Come. Learn. Skills. – From Dickinsonians that have some.

The Sustain IT Workshop Series is designed to create action on an issue of concern through education, networking, and prioritization. Students, faculty and staff participate to learn, discuss current practices and ideas for improvement, and then identify action items that can create positive change towards a more sustainable campus. Eco-Reps are encouraged to attend, but all are welcome. No pre-registration is necessary and feel free to bring your own food.
