2019’s Black History Month celebration.

The Popel Shaw Center for Race & Ethnicity invites the campus community to explore the diverse depictions of black womanhood and identity in film for 2019’s Black History Month celebration. Each week, from February 1-February 25 we invite you to attend screenings of the films below. Light refreshments provided!

  • 2/1: The Color Purple (co-sponsored with MOB), Althouse 106, 7 pm
  • 2/1, 2, 3, 6, and 7: If Beale Street Could Talk (co-sponsored with Africana Studies, American Studies & English; 7:30 pm at the Carlisle Theatre)
  • 2/4: Eve’s Bayou (Althouse 106, 6:30pm)
  • 2/11: Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise (Documentary; Althouse 106, 6:30pm)
  • 2/18: Cocote (co-sponsored with Spanish & Portuguese) (Althouse 106, 6pm)
  • 2/25: Free Angela & All Political Prisoners (Documentary; Althouse 106, 6:30pm). Say Burgin, Assistant Professor, History, will provide brief remarks after the film.
