Angela DeLutis-Eichenberger "The Damage and Demise of the Iglesia de la Compañía in Santiago, Chile" In 1863, tragedy struck the iconic Church of La Compañía in Santiago, Chile, trapping and killing nearly 2000 people in the edifice - primarily women and children. This presentation explains how the catastrophe provoked various literary responses and was used to promote the State's move toward secularization.
