Casting Away of Our Sins
Please join us at Allison Community Room to walk to LeTort Park. On September 9th at sunset the Jewish New Year begins. Rosh Hashanah, literally meaning head of the year, is a two day holiday in the Jewish religion that celebrates the creation of Adam and Eve. It is customary to eat apples and honey for a healthy and a sweet new year as well as eating other sweet treats. During this week we get ready to repent for our sins on Yom Kippur and we start with tashlich, a ritualistic casting away of sins. To do this we take bread and "cast away our sins" into flowing water. This helps us start off with a clean slate for the new year. We are also supposed to ask each other for forgiveness for the wrongs we have committed against each other. We also say to each other may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.
