This workshop will focus on the African roots within the Caribbean and Latinx community.
The Ghanian term Sankofa teaches us to reflect on our past to move forward to a better future. Our generation uses this proverb to illuminate truths and history to promote cultural and collective healing. The Black community is a vibrant culture filled with richness and diversity, that should be explored and honored. This particular workshop will focus on the African roots within the Caribbean and Latinx community, and the impact it has on our culture to this very day. Join us as we use spoken word to empower community gathering, decolonize the narrative surrounding healing practices, and navigate Caribbean and Latin American History to uplift the diversity of Black voices and experiences.
