March 3, 2020

Gomorrah, The Series (Season 1, Episodes 1-2) will be screened on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 pm in Althouse 106. A Q&A session with Roberto Saviano will follow the screening.

Stellfox Distinguished Visiting Writer Roberto Saviano is an Italian writer, essayist, and screenwriter. In his writings, he uses literature and investigative reporting to describe the economic reality of the territory and the business of organized crime, including that of the Neapolitan Mafia, or Camorra crime syndicate. The title of Roberto Saviano's most famous book, Gamorrah, echoes both the Neapolitan Camorra and the corrupt city of Gomorrah described in the Bible. Gomorrah was published in 2006 and since then, it has been translated into 52 languages. The eponymous film was released internationally in 2008 and a four-season series has been produced, to international acclaim, by SKY (2014-18). In 2016 Roberto published Piranhas, a book about Camorra children, which he then adapted into a screenplay. The film Piranhas, which was released in the U.S. in August 2019, won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival and at the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists 2019 award ceremony. During his residency at Dickinson, March 2-5, Roberto will give a public reading, visit classes, and meet with students for informal conversations on writing and film adaptation.
