Cogan Alumni Fellowship Talk by John Orlando '96 - "The Evolution of Entertainment and the Practical English Education"

February 24, 2020

Presented by John Orlando '96, senior VP and head of live-action at Universal 1440 Entertainment.

This spring's Cogan Fellow 2020 is John Orlando '96 who is the senior VP and head of live-action at Universal 1440 Entertainment. John was formerly Head of Content at the digital video streaming network, Sony Crackle, where he had been leading the evolution of the network’s programming strategy and network voice as the competition intensified in the media and streaming landscape. Before joining Sony, John began his career at the William Morris Agency, WMA, where he worked in the feature and television literary departments. Following his time at WMA, John made the move into development, working in features development at John Wells Productions and subsequently at United Artists. In 2005, he went on to work as a talent and literary manager at Circle of Confusion. In 2007, John joined Contradiction Films, an independent producer/financier based in Canada to run production and development. At Contradiction, John was a producer on one of the most successful worldwide digital projects to date, MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY, which he oversaw for Warner Bros. and launched on Machinima. John was an English and Environmental Studies major while at Dickinson.

Dickinson English alumni have all sorts of interesting jobs. Each spring, the Cogan Alumni Fellowship brings a graduate to campus to share life experience and career advice with current students. The residency was named in honor of Eleanor Cogan (1909-2011), who took 52 classes at Dickinson, beginning when she was 70. Mrs. Cogan's adventurous spirit and lifelong curiosity inspires our choice of Cogan speakers.
