I am a double major in economics and mathematics. I am interested in
development economics, especially on economic growth, public policy,
poverty alleviation, and sustainable development. I am also interested
in political issues that affect effective realization of economics policies
in the developing countries. Unfortunately, my college does not offer courses on development
economics. So, I have to do a lot of independent studies to keep myself
on track! I love reading research papers and blogs, books on issues related to
development economics, articles on development issues, and writing blogs focusing on economic growth, public policy, and development in the developing countries.
I am from Nepal, a landlocked country
and one of the most poorest regions in South Asia. I was born in Syangja,
a rural region located in Western Nepal. I came to Dickinson College
in Fall 2005 (Class of 2009). Before coming to Dickinson, I worked as
a business reporter at The Kathmandu Post, one of the most influential
English language dailies in Nepal. Since then I am specially interested in development
economics. I regularly wrote news as well as Op-Eds on economic
(and some political) issues while working there for more than a year. Now, I occasionally
write commentary and Op-Eds (see Articles to read some of my pieces) focusing
on economic and devleopment issues. My approach to economic thinking
centers on the essentiality of close interaction between government
and the market (private sector) for sustainable growth and development.
I regularly blog on issues related to economic development, public policy, and development in the developing countries. Read my blog here and interesting blog links here.
