Greek Life
Dickinson College’s fraternities and sororities provide many
opportunities to get involved, develop leadership skills, succeed
academically, grow as an individual, make lasting friendships and
serve the College and Carlisle communities. Fraternities and sororities
have been a part of Dickinson College for over 150 years.
Women are eligible to join a sorority in the fall of their sophomore
year (information about sorority recruitment can be obtained by
sending an e-mail message to panhel@dickinson.edu);
men are eligible to join a fraternity in the spring of their first
year (information about fraternity recruitment can be obtained by
sending an e-mail message to ifc@dickinson.edu).
All students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average
of 2.25 in order to participate in either the fraternity or sorority
recruitment process. Over twenty-five percent of the Dickinson student
body chooses to affiliate with the College’s fraternities
and sororities.
The Dickinson College fraternity and sorority community is advised
by Student Activities and governed by the Interfraternity Council
(originally established in 1859) for the fraternities and the Panhellenic
Association and its Council (originally established in 1907) for
the sororities. These groups are the local organizations charged
with fulfilling many of the objectives of the North-American
Interfraternity Conference and National
Panhellenic Conference. These two groups serve as the representative
governing body that guides, supports, develops and regulates their
respective communities and enforcing College and individual organization
policies on-campus. The Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic
Association promote academic excellence and opportunities for engaged
learning among all fraternity and sorority members in addition to
sponsoring a variety of social and service activities throughout
the academic year.
Information concering the recognition of new Greek organizations at Dickinson College can be found here.

Along with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC),
the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the Fraternity Executives
Association (FEA), the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA),
and several men’s and women’s fraternities, Dickinson
College endorses the Risk Management
Policy of the Fraternal Information & Programming Group,
Inc. (FIPG) and chooses to use
this policy as the minimum standard by which all Dickinson College
fraternities and sororities will have their risk management policies,
practices and procedures evaluated. A complete copy of the FIPG
Risk Management Manual can be found here.

Notice: Please be aware that should a Dickinson
student choose to join a fraternity or sorority that has been expelled,
suspended or is otherwise not in good standing with or recognized
by the College, there may be adverse consequences for the student
individually. The typical consequences for such membership or affiliation
are suspension or expulsion from Dickinson College.
