While my primary project as a Women’s Center intern has been
to market the center through branding, I have learned so much from my fellow
interns’ projects. Collaborating with everyone at our weekly meetings has made
my experience more meaningful than I ever thought it could be. As the semester
quickly comes to an end, I have been setting up meetings and contacting the
Design Department in order to create some type of tangible piece—a pamphlet, a
brochure—to hand out at events and to have available at the Women’s Center. Most
departments at Dickinson have informational brochures to hand out to students
who have questions about the major, minor, resources, study abroad, and other
programs. I realized that the Women’s Center didn’t have anything like this.
Creating a pamphlet for the Women’s Center would help spread
the word about our mission on campus. Many misconceptions exist about what
exactly we do and whom we cater to (hint: everyone on campus.) This project
would go along with one of my larger goals—learning more about marketing
strategies. A visual, tangible marker will help make the Women’s Center more
prominent in the eyes of the students. One concern I have is that most of my
peers have little knowledge about the Women’s Center. Some think it’s just for
women. Others think it’s just for feminists. As interns, we’ve all been
striving to clear up those misconceptions. With our goals and projects written
out in plain sight, people will recognize what we stand for.
