Lavender Reception
A
ceremony recognizing and celebrating Dickinson's lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally (LGBTQQIA) graduating students
and alumni as well as their families, friends, and supporters
Lavender
Reception 2013:
April
19, 2013
Applications
Due: April 12th by 4:30pm
What
is a Lavender Reception?
An
inspiring and affirming ceremony that celebrates the achievements of graduating
students and alumni in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
questioning, intersex, and ally (LGBTQQIA) community from Dickinson College
Who
participates in a Lavender Reception?
Traditionally,
graduating students have been the only recognized individuals in Lavender
Reception ceremonies. Since Dickinson has now established an intuitionally
sponsored Office of LGBTQ Services, the Office wishes to also recognize the LGBTQQIA
alumni community from Dickinson. Acknowledging the challenges that alumni might
have faced and a previous lack of resources, the new Office would like to
welcome back alumni with graduating students and raise awareness of the new
energy and exciting changes happening at Dickinson around LGBTQQIA issues.
Recognizing
the challenging road to graduation that many students in the LGBTQQIA community
face, the ceremony gives graduating students, family, friends, faculty,
administrators, peers, allies, and significant supporters the opportunity to
holistically embrace each student at the conclusion of their undergraduate
journey.
